Robust Wireless Inhouse Communication for Control Applications

The inhouse transmission of control information requires a high robustness, high coverage range, low latencies and a low energy demand. Therefore, the CTI evaluates different wireless technologies (for example IEEE 802.15.4/ZigBee, Bluetooth or EnOcean). Besides that, their individual performance is compared and optimization concepts are investigated. In addition to the analysis and the optimization, novel system concepts are studied. Experimental hardware prototypes and simulation systems are applied for the research. In order to perform practical evaluations, a testbed is set up. This testbed will be used to evaluate whether the technologies fulfill the requirements in realistic scenarios. Hence, the CTI has developed scalable test systems and prototypes, like universal IEEE 802.15.4 USB modules for the 2.4GHz and 868MHz frequency bands. The research results and concepts are applied in the E-DeMa and HOMEPLANE projects.
